FGF Gala Dinner

A special Gala Dinner was held on the occasion of FGF 10^th Anniversary Celebration on Friday, October 10, 2008, hosting the honorable Tony Blair, former British Prime Minister, as keynote speaker.

The Event was held under the patronage of Her Excellency Mrs. Suzanne Mubarak. This memorable event brought together more than 800 distinguished guests, business leaders, and public figures with Her Majesty Queen Rania of Jordan, and His Excellency Prince Al Walid Bin Talal, among many notable guests.

The event commenced with a speech by Mr. Moataz Al Alfi, FGF Vice Chairman reflecting on a decade of investing in Egypt’s human capital. The event presented an opportunity to share FGF achievements during the last ten years and put forward the foundation’s ambitious plan for the coming years. A documentary film was screened capturing FGF efforts towards bridging the gap between education and the business community evolving needs.

Since 1998, FGF has touched the lives of 40,000 young graduates — equipping them with the business skills deemed imperative by the business sector and the results speak for themselves with a 90% employment rate. FGF accomplishments encompass graduating 1000 globally recognized CIT professionals and empowering over 1000 executive leaders, thus profoundly impacting more than 1000 private and public organizations.

Mr. Gamal Mubarak, FGF Chairman gave an inspiring word on the role of the foundation and the role of the private sector in leveraging Egypt’s human capital. “FGF recognized early on people as Egypt’s prime economic asset – human capital – and has proven through investing in people that increased investment in skills and knowledge provides immediate returns to the economy through increases in labor productivity, accelerated business growth, resulting in sustainable socio-economic development”.

According to Mr. Mubarak, the challenges ahead necessitate a new mindset whereas public-private and civil society partnerships will play an increasingly critical role in addressing Egypt’s national priorities, with education at the forefront.

The highlight of the event was a keynote speech by the honourable Tony Blair, who shed light on the global economic crisis witnessed today across the world and the impact of globalization. According to Mr. Blair, the new economic reality strongly necessitates shared global values to enable nations to work together for a better future which we all ultimately share. The event culminated in an open discussion during which guests had the opportunity to exchange views. Mr. Tony Blair commended FGF for its efforts in developing a self empowered young generation possessing the skills and knowledge vital for economic and civic success.

The Foundation expressed its great appreciation for the dedication of its partners and donors over the years that have been instrumental in achieving FGF’s vision. FGF success has only been made possible through the support of its valuable partners and friends who gathered on this day to commemorate a decade of investing in people.
